NHTSA Seeks Massive 52M Vehicle Recall Over Defective Airbags; Tesla Slashes Prices Again Ahead of California 300 and NASCAR Playoffs
-
NHTSA is recommending a massive 52 million vehicle recall due to potentially defective Autoliv/ARC airbags that could rupture and spray shrapnel.
-
The airbags were used by 12 automakers in vehicles built between 2000-2018. Affected brands include BMW, Ford, GM, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes, Porsche, Toyota, Volkswagen.
-
There have been 7 confirmed ruptures so far, resulting in 1 death and multiple injuries. NHTSA says given 2.6 million estimated airbag deployments, the failure rate is 1 in 370,000.
-
Tesla has lowered prices again, with the Model 3 now starting at $40,630 and Model Y at $50,130 after recent cuts. With the $7,500 tax credit, effective prices are even lower.

The California 300 off-road race is happening this weekend, along with NASCAR playoff racing at the Charlotte Roval. Parker Kligerman is fighting to stay in title contention.
