Viral Hamas Leader Images Upscaled by AI, Not Fabricated

Photos of Hamas leaders that went viral were accused of being AI-generated but were actually just upscaled using AI from low-resolution 2014 images.

The upscaled images showed distorted faces and hands which led to accusations they were fabricated.

Israeli media personality Hananya Naftali tweeted the images saying Hamas leaders live luxurious lives while asking people to sacrifice.

Naftali confirmed he took the images from a 2014 news article and upscaled the resolution but did not alter them otherwise.

The AI upscaling can produce mixed results, sometimes muddling images, which is why people thought they were fabricated.
