Ripley Actor Johnny Flynn Describes Challenging Underwater Scenes and Appreciation for AI Stand-Ins
-
Johnny Flynn said the boat sequence where his character is killed in Ripley was very technically challenging to film. It involved shooting in a tank, in the ocean, and coordinating complex fight and death scenes.
-
Even after his death scene, Flynn's character Dickie Greenleaf looms large over the rest of the series, as his murder sets everything else in motion.
-
After Dickie's death, Tom begins having visions and dreams of Dickie's body floating in the water or his eyes opening, which required more underwater filming for Flynn.
-
For some of the underwater shots of Dickie's body, Flynn was thankful when they were able to use AI instead of him having to be repeatedly dunked underwater.
-
Flynn joked that during the strikes over use of AI, he was the only one saying AI can be a good thing, referring to his relief at not having to keep filming the underwater scenes.
