Suppressed UK Report on Saudi Arms Deal Corruption Claims Resurfaces
- Suppressed 1992 UK National Audit Office report on alleged corruption in the Al-Yamamah arms deal between Britain and Saudi Arabia has now been discovered
- Report was effectively banned after lobbying by Ministry of Defence's top civil servant to protect intelligence sharing and British jobs
- Sir Michael Quinlan, former MoD permanent secretary, appears to have lied to MPs investigating the deal about commission payments
- MoD supervised deal and authorized quarterly payments to Saudi Prince Bandar, who received over £1bn
- Although NAO report found no evidence of corruption, it observed MoD had used Al-Yamamah funds for "items requested by Saudi Arabia" like a car and chauffeur
