Nevada Leads US in 2023 Job Growth; Texas Adds Most Total Jobs While Mississippi Sheds Positions
• Nevada had the highest US employment growth in 2023 at 3.7%, gaining over 57,000 jobs. Idaho and South Dakota followed at 3% growth.
• Wyoming (2.8% growth) and Texas (2.7%) also saw strong job gains. Texas added the most jobs in raw numbers at over 369,000.
• Mississippi was the only state to see a decline in jobs, with a 0.7% drop representing a loss of 7,800 positions.
• Rhode Island (0.4% growth) and Vermont (0.5%) also had weak job growth.
• The job gains come amid recent layoffs at companies like Tesla, Microsoft, and UPS. The economy overall added a strong 353,000 jobs in January.
