Android 15 May Allow Users to Block Carriers from Accessing Location Without Consent
• Cellular networks can currently request device locations without permission through network-initiated location requests (NI-LRs) • Android 15 may allow blocking non-emergency NI-LRs via a new location privacy HAL API • This could prevent carriers and "Stingray" devices from getting locations without consent • The feature needs radio vendor support so may not reach all Android 15 devices initially • Carriers can still approximate locations from cell tower connections so locations aren't fully private
