Blinken Meets Abbas in Jordan, Seeks to Deescalate Israel-Palestine Tensions and Provide Aid to Gaza

Secretary of State Blinken met with Palestinian Authority President Abbas in Jordan to discuss fallout from Hamas' attack on Israel.

They discussed efforts to secure release of hostages, prevent conflict from widening, and address humanitarian needs in Gaza.

Blinken conveyed to Abbas the need to keep calm in the West Bank in the interests of both Israel and Palestinians.

Abbas called for an immediate end to aggression toward Palestinians and humanitarian aid to Gaza.

After Jordan, Blinken will visit leaders in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt and Qatar to address the crisis.
