Hackers Attack Apex Legends Tournament, Streamers' Games Compromised
-
During an Apex Legends esports tournament, hackers apparently inserted cheats into the games of two popular streamers mid-match.
-
The hacker "Destroyer2009" took credit, saying he did it "just for fun" to force Apex developers to fix a vulnerability.
-
Destroyer declined to give technical details but said he never touched anything outside of the Apex process when hacking the players.
-
He said he targeted those players because they seem like "nice guys" and it would give them "free attention."
-
Apex developers Respawn said they have deployed the first of several updates to protect players, but gave no details on the issues or fixes.
