Apple considered making DuckDuckGo the default search in Safari's private mode instead of Google.

DuckDuckGo CEO said they had many meetings with Apple about this and believed it would happen.

But Apple exec Giannandrea argued DuckDuckGo wasn't as private as claimed due to reliance on Bing.

Giannandrea previously argued against switching to DuckDuckGo in an internal email.

These talks happened amid the Google antitrust trial over its dominance in search market.
