Apple Announces EU-Specific iPhone Changes to Comply with Digital Markets Act
-
Apple will make it easier for iPhone users in the EU to delete Safari and switch to Android phones by fall 2025. This will allow other companies to offer better data transfer tools from iPhones.
-
EU iPhone users will be able to entirely remove Safari from their devices by the end of 2024 and replace it with another browser.
-
Apple is allowing third-party payment apps in the EU to access the iPhone's NFC chip for contactless payments not done through Apple Pay.
-
Developers in the EU can request additional mediation beyond Apple's standard App Review Board process to contest unsuccessful appeals.
-
All these changes apply only to EU developers and users per requirements of the Digital Markets Act.
