Apple's iMessage, Microsoft's Bing and Edge Avoid EU Regulation Under Digital Markets Act
• Apple won't be required to open up iMessage to rival messaging apps after the EU concluded it doesn't meet the threshold for regulation under the Digital Markets Act (DMA).
• Microsoft's Bing search engine, Edge browser, and online advertising service Microsoft Advertising also won't face tighter DMA controls.
• Apple and Microsoft were previously designated as DMA "gatekeepers" for other core services like iOS, the App Store, Windows, etc.
• The EU said it will continue monitoring iMessage, Bing, Edge and Microsoft Advertising in case their market positions change substantially.
• Tech giants must ensure their designated core services comply with DMA rules by March 7 or face fines up to 10-20% of global annual turnover for breaches.
