Apple Switches to USB-C for iPhone 15, but Speed Confusion Remains
-
Apple switched iPhone 15 models to USB-C port, but base models still only support USB 2.0 speeds. Only Pro models support faster 10Gb/s speeds.
-
There is a need to better label USB-C cables to indicate charging speed, data transfer speed, and other capabilities. Currently there is little labeling.
-
Many different USB standards exist (USB 2.0, USB 3.0, USB 3.1, USB 3.2, USB 4, Thunderbolt 3, etc.) which is confusing for consumers.
-
Operating systems could help by detecting cable capabilities and notifying users, like ChromeOS recently added.
-
With new iPhone models, many new USB-C accessories will be released, but their capabilities may not be clear without proper labeling.
