Bay Area Job Growth Slows in August with Modest Overall Gains

Bay Area added 3,000 jobs in August, but pace of job growth has slowed significantly since 2022.

Job losses biggest in retail, hotels/restaurants, and manufacturing. Tech had small job gains.

East Bay outperformed with 3,500 job gains, while SF-San Mateo and South Bay lost jobs.

Over past year Bay Area added 7,600 jobs a month, but last 3 months averaged only 4,000 added.

California also slowing, with job gains dropping from 27,900 a month over past year to 14,000 a month last 3 months.
