President Biden spoke with Rep. Henry Cuellar after he was the victim of an armed carjacking in Washington, D.C.

Cueller said three young men came up behind him with guns as he was leaving his car and took his keys and car. His belongings were returned hours later.

Mayor Muriel Bowser also reached out to Cuellar after the incident.

Press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said the administration is grateful Cuellar was unharmed and outlined work Biden has done to reduce crime.

D.C. has seen increased crime levels recently, including a 38% increase in homicides and a 100% increase in vehicle thefts compared to last year.
