Biden to Fund 7 Hydrogen Hubs to Manufacture Cleaner Fuel and Create Jobs
-
President Biden will announce 7 regional hydrogen hubs to manufacture cleaner fuel from renewable energy, nuclear power, or methane gas.
-
The hubs will be funded by $7 billion from the bipartisan infrastructure law. Locations include the Mid-Atlantic, Appalachia, California, Houston, the Upper Midwest, the Midwest, and Pacific Northwest.
-
The goal is to catalyze $50 billion in investments and create many new jobs, while producing 3 million tons of hydrogen per year by 2030.
-
Hydrogen will help decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors like trucking and industry that rely heavily on fossil fuels.
-
The hubs are estimated to reduce carbon emissions by 25 million metric tons per year, equivalent to taking 5.5 million gas cars off the road.
