Costco Membership May Soon Be Required for Iconic $1.50 Hot Dog Combo

Costco may soon require a membership to purchase food court items like the popular $1.50 hot dog and drink combo. Signs indicating this have been spotted at some locations.

This isn't the first time Costco has tried to restrict non-members from the food court. They attempted something similar in early 2020.

Costco wants to encourage more people to get memberships, which provide revenue through membership fees. Current renewal rate is 90%.

Executives have resisted raising the hot dog combo price for years, wanting to keep it affordable. The company even built its own hot dog manufacturing plant.

If enacted, the food court membership requirement could significantly impact many non-members who currently take advantage of the low food court prices.
