Costco to Require Membership for Food Court Purchases at Select Locations

Costco will start requiring a membership card to purchase items from its food courts starting April 8, 2024. This is to address overcrowding issues.

The new rule will apply primarily to locations with exterior-facing food courts near office buildings or construction sites.

Costco food courts are popular for the $1.50 hot dog-soda combo, chicken bakes, and pizza.

An annual Executive Membership costs $120 per year. Globally, Costco has 132 million member card holders.

Costco's ancillary businesses like the food court, pharmacy, and optical help drive more frequent visits to warehouses and increased sales.
