Crypto whale loses $24M in staked Ethereum to phishing attack
-
A crypto whale lost $24M worth of staked ETH in a phishing attack. The funds were in stETH and rETH on Rocket Pool and Lido.
-
The hacker stole 9,579 stETH worth $15.5M and 4,851 rETH worth $8.5M in just two transactions.
-
The hacker swapped the stolen assets for 13,785 ETH and 1.64 million DAI, transferring much of it to the exchange FixedFloat.
-
The victim likely enabled token approvals, granting the hacker permission to transfer the funds out.
-
The hack happened shortly after major ETH staking providers pledged to limit their share of the market to 22% each.
