Johnson Calls for Ban on Dallas City Manager's $400K Golden Parachute Exit Deal
-
Mayor Eric Johnson says state lawmakers should ban "golden parachute" exit payouts for municipal employees like the one outgoing Dallas City Manager T.C. Broadnax is getting.
-
Broadnax is entitled to a year's salary - over $400k - for resigning "at the suggestion" of a council majority per his contract.
-
Johnson calls the payment "backroom maneuvering" and says taxpayers shouldn't foot the bill for someone already lining up another job.
-
At least 8 council members suggested Broadnax resign; only 7 votes were needed to fire him, which would also have triggered a big payout.
-
Johnson pledges not to support a similar clause for the next city manager and suggests performance incentives instead.
