DARPA Taps Northrop Grumman to Study Concept for Lunar Railroad System

DARPA selected Northrop Grumman to develop a "lunar railroad" concept to transport humans and supplies across the moon's surface.

The railroad aims to contribute to a lunar economy and commercial ventures with international partners.

This is part of DARPA's 10-Year Lunar Architecture study to extend economic activity into deep space.

Northrop Grumman's study will define interfaces, risks, prototypes, and concepts for a lunar railroad system.

The company will explore construction and operation with robotics, including grading, track placement, joining, inspection, maintenance and repair.
