Delta and Other Airlines Offer Special Eclipse Viewing Flights for 2024
-
Delta's flight 1218 from Austin to Detroit sold out in 24 hours. The flight path is timed to view the April 8th total solar eclipse at its peak through the plane's large windows.
-
The 2024 eclipse will last over twice as long and have a wider path than the 2017 eclipse. Passengers on several other Delta flights that day can also view the eclipse.
-
Southwest has scheduled certain flights on April 8th that have a high likelihood of good eclipse viewing. Alaska Airlines did a similar special flight in 2017.
-
For safety, solar eclipse glasses or viewers are recommended, except during the brief totality phase. Delta passengers will receive special glasses.
-
Experts say the best eclipse viewing is from the ground with clear skies, but a plane offers an alternative if clouds are forecast.
