NYC Rep Urges Education Dept. to Restrict Anti-Israel Content After Israel-Omitting Map Found in Classroom
-
Democratic Rep. Ritchie Torres wrote to the NYC Department of Education urging restrictions on "anti-Israel propaganda" after a Qatar-funded map omitting Israel was found in a Brooklyn classroom.
-
Torres said the map was "irresponsible, reckless and dangerous" given the surge in antisemitism following recent attacks by Hamas.
-
The Israel-omitting map was part of a program funded by Qatar Foundation International (QFI), which has provided over $1 million in grants to NYC schools.
-
Torres called on the Department of Education to put policies in place prohibiting officials from "indoctrinating students with anti-Israel propaganda" and to scrutinize content from groups like QFI.
-
Torres stated that no educational content should be used in schools unless thoroughly reviewed and pre-approved by the Department of Education first.
