Democrats Propose Bill to Fight 'Shrinkflation' Price Hikes

Democrats introduced a bill called the Shrinkflation Prevention Act to allow the FTC to crack down on companies that reduce product sizes without lowering prices.

The bill is in response to companies downsizing products like candy, chips, toilet paper due to inflation while keeping prices the same.

Biden and Democrats have condemned shrinkflation, calling it a "rip-off" and corporate greed that is hurting consumers.

The bill is sponsored by Sen. Bob Casey and co-sponsored by 7 other Democrats and Bernie Sanders. It has support from consumer advocacy groups.

Republicans oppose the bill, saying it would be too heavy-handed in telling companies how to package products.
