DeSantis Proposes Expanded Florida Sanctions on Iran to Show Support for Israel

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced a proposal to increase sanctions on Iran and block Iranian businesses in Florida.

The proposal builds on a previous bill restricting property ownership for citizens of certain countries including Iran.

It would prohibit state and local governments from contracting with companies in expanded sectors like financial, construction, manufacturing.

The sanctions would stay in place until the U.S. government certifies Iran has stopped supporting terrorism and seeking weapons of mass destruction.

DeSantis said the proposal shows Florida's support for Israel amid conflict between Israel and Hamas, which is backed by Iran.
