Dollar General Removes Self-Checkout from Hundreds of Stores Due to Shoplifting Concerns
-
Dollar General is removing self-checkout from 300 stores with high levels of shoplifting and converting some self-checkout lanes in other stores.
-
The company had added self-checkout to over half its stores but is now scaling back due to shoplifting and other loss issues.
-
Dollar General says these changes will reduce shrinkage - loss from shoplifting, employee theft, damages etc.
-
Other retailers like Booths supermarket and Walmart have also removed self-checkout over similar concerns.
-
Target is tweaking its self-checkout by adding express lanes for 10 items or less but also opening more staffed registers.
