Supreme Court Justices Call for Secular Approach, Urge Focus on Constitution Over Religious Rituals
• Supreme Court Justice Abhay S Oka said "Pooja" or "Archana" should not be performed on judiciary premises, instead should respect the Constitution.
• His statement came after former Justice K Joseph asked to drop SC motto "Yato Dharmastato Jaya" (Where there is Dharma, there is Victory).
• Justice Oka said should adopt Dr. Ambedkar's mindset, focus on Constitutional principles over religious rituals.
• Justice BR Gavai agreed, suggested inaugurating events by watering plants instead of lamp lighting to send an environmental message.
• This follows former Justice Joseph last week suggesting the SC motto diverges from the national ethos.
