DuckDuckGo Launches $9.99 Monthly Subscription for Personal Data Removal Tool and VPN
-
DuckDuckGo is launching a new browser-based tool to automatically scan data broker websites for your personal information and request removal. This is part of a new $9.99/month subscription service called Privacy Pro.
-
The tool allows you to enter some personal details like your name and address, then scans 53 data broker sites to find and opt out of records associated with you.
-
DuckDuckGo says it designed the system so that your details are encrypted locally on your device and not sent to DuckDuckGo's servers.
-
The subscription also includes a VPN service developed in-house by DuckDuckGo, which provides encryption and doesn't store logs of browsing activity.
-
This marks the first time DuckDuckGo is charging for services beyond its free search engine and browser. The goal is to fund more privacy protections.
