Ethereum's Dencun Upgrade Promises Faster, Cheaper Transactions
-
Ethereum's next upgrade, called Dencun, is scheduled to go live on the mainnet in March after two final testnet upgrades (Sepolia on Jan 30 and Holesky on Feb 7).
-
Dencun aims to make Ethereum much faster and cheaper to use.
-
It introduces a feature called proto-danksharding that will allow Ethereum to handle over 100,000 transactions per second.
-
Dencun will make Layer-2 solutions on Ethereum a lot cheaper. Most Ethereum activity already happens on Layer-2s.
-
This is the latest in a series of ongoing Ethereum upgrades, following the major "merge" change from proof of work to proof of stake in 2022.
