Judge Rebukes Jan. 6 Rioter, Warns Normalizing Violence Could Spur Vicious Cycle
• Federal judge Royce Lamberth admonished a Jan. 6 rioter for downplaying the severity of the riots during sentencing • Lamberth said normalizing the riots could lead to a "vicious cycle" of political violence that threatens institutions • He called the riots "corrosive" and "selfish, not patriotic," saying there's no room for such violence • The rioter, Taylor James Johnatakis, pledged to "burn the city down" before attacking officers at the Capitol • Over 1,350 people have been charged and over 800 sentenced for crimes related to the Jan. 6 riots
