Researchers Achieve Record 301 Gigabits Per Second on Standard Fiber Optics
- Researchers transmitted data at 301,000,000 megabits per second across standard fiber optics, much faster than current broadband speeds
- Achieved by using previously unused wavelength bands (E-band & S-band) in addition to standard C-band & L-band
- Developed new optical amplifiers & equalizers to utilize extra wavelength capacity
- Leverages existing fiber infrastructure for massive speed boost without added cost
- Speed record is 1.02 petabits/sec on custom multi-core fiber, but this uses standard single-core
