Foreign companies pay over $1.5 billion to Russia while exiting country

Foreign companies exiting Russia have paid over $387 million to the Russian budget as of March 15, 2023, over 17 times more than Russia expected for 2024.

Russia collected over $1.5 billion from departing companies in 2023.

As of March 15, only 373 companies had fully exited Russia since the war began, with 500 more in process of leaving and 704 having suspended operations.

The Russian government is making it difficult for companies to exit, demanding discounts on asset sales and extraction of 10% of sale proceeds.

Remaining in Russia also boosts the economy, which grew 3.6% in 2023 and is projected to grow 2.6% in 2024, aided by defense and government spending.
