Mnuchin Leads Investor Group Seeking to Buy TikTok from Chinese Owner

Former Trump Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin announced plans to lead an investor group to buy popular video app TikTok from its Chinese parent company ByteDance
The House passed a bill that would ban TikTok in the US unless ByteDance sells it, over national security concerns about user data access by China
Mnuchin said TikTok "should be owned by US businesses" and that China wouldn't allow US ownership of a similar platform
The Trump administration previously supported a deal for Oracle and Walmart to acquire TikTok's US operations, but it never materialized
Civil rights groups like the ACLU criticized the TikTok ban bill as violating freedom of expression for its many American users
