Gannett and McClatchy Drop AP Content to Invest More in Own Newsrooms
- Gannett, the largest US newspaper company, will stop using AP content in its 200+ publications starting Monday
- Gannett signed a deal with Reuters for global news and will still use AP for election data and stylebook
- McClatchy, which owns 30 papers like Miami Herald and Kansas City Star, will stop using some AP services next month
- The decisions will allow the companies to invest more in their own newsrooms
- AP said the moves would not have a major impact on its revenue
