New 'GoFetch' Exploit Bypasses Security on Apple and Intel Chips
- GoFetch is a new exploit that leaks data from a CPU's cache by taking advantage of Data Memory Prefetchers (DMPs)
- GoFetch affects Apple's M1 and M2 chips as well as Intel Raptor Lake CPUs
- Normally exploits can be patched by disabling problematic features, but DMP can't be fully disabled on M1/M2 chips
- Running cryptographic operations on efficiency cores avoids GoFetch on M1/M2, but may reduce performance
- This workaround may not work on future Apple chips if DMPs are added to efficiency cores, leaving no secure options
