Google Rolling Out Passkeys as Easier Alternative to Passwords

Google prompting users to create passkeys instead of passwords by default when signing into Google accounts.

Passkeys use device authentication like fingerprint or face recognition rather than passwords.

Passwords will still be available, passkeys are currently optional.

Passkeys are based on WebAuthn technology and store keys on both device and server.

If device is lost, passkeys can authenticate via phone, email, or security key backup options.
