Google and Apple Team Up to Launch Improved Lost Item Tracking Networks
-
Google launched an Android Find My Device network, similar to Apple's Find My network, to help locate lost or stolen Android devices. It uses nearby Android devices and Bluetooth to relay locations.
-
Starting in May, the network will also work with third-party Bluetooth trackers like Chipolo and Pebblebee to locate items.
-
Google worked with Apple so iPhones can detect nearby unknown Android trackers, preventing unwanted tracking.
-
This collaboration comes after criticism Apple faced over AirTags being used for stalking, thefts, etc.
-
Apple's iOS 17.5 expands "Found Moving With You" alerts to include third-party item trackers beyond just AirTags.
