Utah Gov. Cox Vetoes 7 Bills, Calls for Reduced Legislation
-
Gov. Cox vetoed 7 bills from the recent legislative session that he deemed unnecessary, including bills on residential construction contracts, state employee cybersecurity training, and reporting requirements.
-
Cox said there are too many bills passed recently, with over 590 passed last year, and would like to reduce the number down to around 400-500.
-
The governor line-item vetoed sections of two major budget bills related to funding for bills that did not end up passing.
-
Cox allowed two other bills to go into effect without his signature due to overwhelming legislative support, involving film incentives and studying psilocybin.
-
Most of the bills vetoed were deemed redundant or unnecessary by Cox because the objectives could be accomplished without legislation or were already being done.
