Jeffries Urges GOP to End Speaker Deadlock So Congress Can Aid Israel Amid War with Hamas

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries urged Republicans to resolve the Speaker deadlock so Congress can respond to the war in Israel.

Half a world away, Palestinian group Hamas launched a major attack on Israel on Saturday, marking the nation's first formally declared war since 1973.

Jeffries affirmed his support for Israel, having visited the country in April. He expects Congress will need to approve additional aid like Iron Dome.

Republicans will hold a candidate forum on Tuesday followed by a Speaker vote Wednesday. Top contenders are Reps. Jim Jordan and Steve Scalise.

Jeffries said Democrats are willing to find common ground and allow bipartisan priorities to get votes under a new Speaker.
