Hawley Pushes to Expand Radiation Exposure Compensation Program
- Hawley will attach an amendment to reauthorize and expand the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA) to all Senate legislation
- The amendment would expand RECA coverage to more states including New Mexico, Missouri, Idaho, Montana, Guam, Colorado, Tennessee, Kentucky and Alaska
- RECA compensates Americans exposed to radiation from nuclear testing or uranium mining
- Biden has reauthorized RECA for 2 more years, but it will expire without further congressional action
- Hawley's amendment passed the Senate last year with bipartisan support but was removed during conference with the House
