Biden Pledges $6 Billion to Launch Green Revolution in Polluting Heavy Industries

Electricity and transportation contribute about half of America's carbon emissions, but are starting to get cleaner due to renewable energy and electric vehicles.

Heavy industry like cement and steel production is also a major pollution source, but has been slower to reduce emissions.

The Biden administration pledged $6 billion for pilot projects to spur a "green revolution" in heavy industry. This is the largest U.S. investment in cleaning up this sector.

The funding will take technologies like clean hydrogen steel production and lower-emission cement from the pilot stage to commercial scale.

80% of the projects will be in disadvantaged communities impacted by pollution and job losses, so they can benefit from cleaner industry and new jobs.
