X's New Calling Feature Raises Privacy Concerns by Exposing User Data
-
X's new audio/video calling feature automatically enables by default, revealing users' IP addresses and locations. This raises privacy concerns.
-
Law enforcement and hackers can use exposed IP addresses to track locations and illegal behavior or launch attacks.
-
To disable X calling and protect your IP address, go to Settings > Privacy and Safety > Direct Messages and toggle off "Enable audio and video calling."
-
If the calling option doesn't appear, it hasn't rolled out to you yet but likely will in a future update.
-
If keeping calling enabled, ensure "Enhanced call privacy" is toggled on to help protect your IP address.
