2010 Bitcoin Pizza Purchase Now Valued at $330 Million
-
Jeremy Sturdivant agreed in 2010 to buy 2 pizzas for Laszlo Hanyecz in exchange for 10,000 Bitcoin, worth about $30 at the time. Those coins are now worth $330 million.
-
Sturdivant spent the Bitcoin while traveling the US with his girlfriend. He regrets not saving them but says at the time he was just "facilitating a purchase."
-
Hanyecz, who made the original pizza offer, has no regrets. He sees it as getting free pizza for contributing to Bitcoin and thinks the deal helped Bitcoin gain attention.
-
In total, Hanyecz spent 100,000 Bitcoin on pizza that summer, now worth $2.5 billion.
