India Ramps Up Lentil Imports from Canada Again After Diplomatic Tensions Ease

India has received steady lentil imports from top supplier Canada in Jan-Oct 2022, helping increase total imports.

India imported 1.09 million metric tons of lentils, including 463,000 tons from Canada, in Jan-Oct.

Indian buyers slowed purchases in September amid diplomatic tensions with Canada.

Buyers have now ramped up orders from Canada again as bilateral ties improve.

Canada was the biggest lentil supplier to India in 2021/22, accounting for over half of total imports.
