Intel has revealed details of Thunderbolt 5, the next generation of its Thunderbolt technology coming in 2024. It will offer up to 80Gb/s bandwidth and 120Gb/s max transmission speed.

Thunderbolt 5 will enable support for triple 4K monitor setups at high refresh rates, 8K displays, ultra-fast storage, and simplified cabling.

Up to 240W charging over Thunderbolt 5 could allow slimmer laptop designs without bulky AC adapters.

Thunderbolt 5 will be backwards compatible with Thunderbolt 4 accessories. New compatible devices will arrive in 2024.

Thunderbolt branding will remain similar. Look for the thunderbolt icon and "5" label on ports and cables.
