Israel Freezes Hamas Cryptocurrency Fundraising Accounts on Binance After Attacks
-
Israel froze cryptocurrency accounts used by Hamas to raise funds after launching attacks into Israel on Saturday.
-
Police say Hamas was urging people on social media to deposit cryptocurrencies into their accounts after the recent escalation in violence.
-
Israel located and froze the accounts with help from cryptocurrency exchange Binance.
-
Hamas had previously endorsed cryptocurrencies for fundraising but said in April it would stop taking bitcoin donations due to "hostile" activity.
-
Since 2021, Israel has seized around 190 crypto accounts at Binance, including some linked to Hamas and Islamic State.
