Ukraine MP Calls for Cancellation of Slovak PM Visit After Remarks Questioning Ukraine Sovereignty
-
Ukrainian MP Merezhko says Ukraine must cancel planned visit of Slovakian PM Fico after his "outrageous comments" challenging Ukraine's sovereignty.
-
Merezhko reacted to Fico's recent anti-Ukrainian remarks where he said Ukraine is "entirely controlled by the U.S." and not sovereign.
-
Fico also claimed Ukraine might have to cede territory to Russia, referring to Crimea, Donbas, and Luhansk.
-
Merezhko said "every nation must have some minimum level of self-respect" and "It is absolutely unacceptable to pretend that nothing is happening when a foreign leader makes statements questioning the sovereignty of a state."
-
The Slovakian PM is still scheduled to meet Ukrainian PM Shmyhal on Jan. 24 in Uzhhorod, where Fico intends to tell Shmyhal he opposes Ukraine's NATO membership.
