Jordan Investigates CIA Ties to Hunter Biden Letter Signers, Accuses Agency of Shielding Role
-
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan is investigating whether any of the 51 "spies who lie" letter signers were on the CIA payroll. He asked the CIA to reveal any signers who have been active CIA contractors or consultants since January 2020.
-
Jordan said the CIA has not fully complied with his committee's records requests regarding the agency's role in efforts to discredit the Hunter Biden laptop story before the 2020 election.
-
Jordan accused the CIA of improperly classifying some documents related to the letter that were originally unclassified. He said this was done to shield the agency from embarrassment rather than protect national security.
-
Former CIA Acting Director Mike Morell organized the letter signers after speaking with then-Biden adviser Antony Blinken. Morell asked a former CIA analyst to sign the letter while he was speaking with the agency's prepublication review board.

Several former intelligence officials who signed the letter have defended it despite questions about the CIA's involvement. Former CIA Director Leon Panetta said he has no regrets about signing on.
