Tennessee Factory Fined $300K for Hiring Child Workers

Immigrant children as young as 14 were found working illegally with dangerous equipment at a Tennessee lawn mower parts factory called Tuff Torq.

Tuff Torq was fined nearly $300,000 for hiring 10 child workers in violation of labor laws.

The company must set aside $1.5 million to help the affected child workers.

Tuff Torq said the child workers used fake credentials to get jobs through a staffing agency that Tuff Torq uses.

Tuff Torq is required to post signs saying no one under 18 can work there and to strengthen compliance programs.
