Kraken to Share User Data on Large Bitcoin Trades with IRS Per Court Order
-
Kraken will share data on users' bitcoin trades over $20,000 from 2016-2020 with the IRS per a court order. This includes names, DOBs, addresses, etc.
-
42,017 Kraken accounts will be impacted. The data will be sent to the IRS in early November.
-
Kraken fought the IRS summons for 2 years, arguing it was intrusive, but ultimately lost in court in June.
-
Kraken says despite losing, it convinced the court to reject some of the IRS's broader data demands like IP addresses and sources of wealth.
-
The IRS has previously won similar court orders against Coinbase, Circle, and SFOX to share user crypto trade data.
