Labour Party Leadership in Crisis as Stakeholders Seek to Oust Chairman Abure

Stakeholders of the Nigeria Labour Congress will meet Monday to decide the fate of Labour Party chairman Julius Abure. A caretaker committee may take over party leadership.

The meeting follows a failed attempt by the party's Board of Trustees to wrest power from Abure.

Retired workers protested and demanded Abure's resignation, saying the NLC president failed to protect their interests.

The Labour Party called the planned NLC meeting illegal and said its outcome would be a nullity. It asked law enforcement to prevent the gathering.

The party said the NLC has no ownership rights over Labour Party and cannot claim to control it.
